Karachi Stock Exchange Weekly Analysis 25 September, 2011

The Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) market activity was bullish. KSE – 100 index has reached 11,606.86 points by gaining of 253.4 points or 2.2 per cent. It is the highest level achieved by KSE market during last six weeks.

Following news have played vital role in Karachi Stock Market index movement:

  • Investors will closely watch next week’s news flow from Islamabad on the way it has exited the incomplete loan programme with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to make investment decisions
  • Government of Pakistan has announced, the resolution of the notorious inter-corporate debt through the issuance of PIBs (Pakistan Investment Bonds)
  • Investors have serious concerns over Pak – US relations
  • The Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) has chances of upside as Pakistan gears up to cut the interest rate to boost flagging economy, especially after changing the official inflation numbers
  • A high-powered official delegation led by Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Sheikh is in Washington to hold talks with the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) that also includes ending $11.3 billon loan arrangement
  • Immediately after the government said it no longer needed to pursue release of the remaining $3.4 billion of the loan, the government rebased the consumer price index (CPI), bringing down inflation figure and raising hope of steeper rate cut next month
  • CPI comes in at only 11.56% YoY, due to rebase effect
  • Some European Union members also face sovereign debt crisis. Greece, Italy and Spain are all under investors’ spotlight as leaders there battle to find a way of keeping the economies afloat
  • According to analysts, banks e.g. UBL, MCB, NBP could see more gains
  • Textile exports surge 13% YoY in 2MFY12
  • Cement sales up 5.7% YoY in 2MFY12

Pak Reinsurance, Indus Dyeing, Kohinoor Energy, Faysal Bank and Soneri Bank were the major gainers while Pak Telephone, Mari Gas, Bestway Cement, Gharibwal Cement and Netsol Technologies were major losers at KSE this week.

The Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) market activity was bullish. KSE – 100 index has reached 11,353.46 points by gaining of 67.25 points or 0.59 per cent. According to experts, global capital markets remain jittery and domestic political situation is far from conductive for investors. These factors can badly affect KSE market in upcoming week.

Following news have played vital role in Karachi Stock Market index movement:

  • As the result season gradually approached to finish line, Companies (especially blue chips) have announced better than expected results
  • The centre of attention were fertiliser stocks, National Bank of Pakistan, petroleum exploration companies and Lotte PTA
  • Investors seems cautious, because of current rain-cum-flood in Sindh
  • Flood has also adversely affected the agriculture growth in the country
  • Asian Development Bank (ADB) downgraded its growth projections for Pakistan to 3.7% from 4.5%
  • Higher import payments put pressure on the PKR as it already depreciated by over 2% against USD from Jul-11
  • Record remittances have been received of worth $1.31 billion, during the month of August
  • Cement prices have been surged by Rs. 7 – 17 per bag
  • US have announced to construct six power plants in Pakistan
  • The morale of investors will be down after the decision of the government to end IMF loan programme

Mari Gas, Bata (Pakistan), Attock Cement, Sui Northern Gas Ltd and P.I.A.C. were the major gainers while NetSol Technologies, Attock Refinery, Gharibwal Cement, Bestway Cement and Pace (Pak) Ltd were major losers at KSE this week.

The Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) market activity was bullish. KSE – 100 index has reached 11,286.21 points by gaining of 215 points or 1.95 per cent. According to analysts, A combination of improved law and order situation, renewed institutional participation and positive FII flows saw the bourse register a positive closing

Following news have played vital role in Karachi Stock Market index movement:

  • Easing of circular debt concerns after the Finance Ministry released funds for the energy sector
  • Recovery in global stocks, commodities and International Oil prices
  • During the week important results were announced by Hubco, PTC, DGKC, and NML
  • Chemicals and banks led the way as they outperformed the 100-share index by 3.6 percent and 2.7 percent, respectively, while oil and gas sector underperformed the index by 0.7 percent
  • Attock Group of Companies, which includes heavyweights like Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL), Attock Petroleum, Attock Refinery and National Refinery Limited (NRL), have been actively traded in the past week on speculation about their earnings and payouts
  • KSE market will continue the upward momentum during the next week as some of the largest listed companies announce full-year financial results
  • National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) hit the upper lock day after day, appreciating 20 percent overall. There seems to be no clear reason for so much interest, but analysts said some large institutions which had earlier sold the valuable share at high price were buying it back cheap
  • Lotte Pakistan PTA has again become one of the most traded stocks. It surged eight percent during the week in consequence of the rise in price of cotton
  • SNGPL restores gas to Industrial Zone I
